Session 3: Annual Meeting

Dr. Robert Wicks speaks on June 3 – you must be a member to attend. If you are not registered for the annual meeting, you will need to purchase a one day pass.

Dr. Robert Wicks has spoken on his major areas of expertise—resilience, self-care, and the prevention of secondary stress on Capitol Hill, led a course in resilience in Beirut for relief workers brought there from Aleppo, Syria, spoken at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, the U.S. Air Force Academy, the Mayo Clinic, the U.S. Army Medical Command, Boston’s Children’s Hospital, Harvard Divinity School, Yale School of Nursing, Princeton Theological Seminary, and countless others. He has also spoken at the Boston Public Library’s commemoration of the Boston Marathon bombing, and has addressed care givers in 20 different countries including: China, Vietnam, India, Thailand, Haiti, Hungary, Guatemala, Malta, New Zealand, Australia, France, England, and South Africa.

For over 45 years, he has been called upon to speak calm into chaos by individuals and groups experiencing great stress, anxiety and confusion. In 1994, he was responsible for the psychological debriefing of NGOs/relief workers evacuated from Rwanda during their genocide. In 1993, and again in 2001, he worked in Cambodia with professionals from the English-speaking community who were present to help the Khmer people rebuild their nation following years of terror and torture. Dr. Wicks has published over 60 books for both professionals and the general public including the bestselling Riding the Dragon and The Simple Care of a Hopeful Heart: Mentoring Yourself in Difficult Times.

Session 1: Board Boot Camp

December 1-2, noon-3pm EST

Our first session, Board Boot Camp, teaches you how to be a better board member by gaining expertise from professionals who will define the fundamentals of non-profit board service.

Day 1 Modules:

12:00-12:50 pm: Board Member 101: Board member fiduciary duty and governing documents
1:00-1:50 pm: Efficient Organizations: Board, Committee and Task Force roles and responsibilities
2:00-2:50 pm: Effective Board Meetings: How to run a meeting, put together an agenda and basics of parliamentary procedure. Plus basics of minutes and record keeping

Day 2 Modules:

12:00-12:50 pm: Creating a Focused Board: Aligning board governance with strategic plans and goals
1:00-1:50 pm: All About Money: How to put together a budget and read monthly financials
2:00-2:50 pm: Tips and tricks for board member success.

Session 2: Confluence 2.0

February 23-24, noon-3pm EST

This course is available to AMA Alliance Members and Non-Members who are eligible for membership.

Portia Obeng is a social media strategist with over 10 years of experience in social media strategy and content management. She started before Snaps were chatted, Instagram had stories, and Tiks were toked; and her current specialties are Instagram and LinkedIn.
She works to help people level up on LinkedIn. She also helps organizations turn their employers into LinkedIn superstars who advocate for the company, amplify brand messaging, and attract the best talent.

Amy Ayoub, a lifelong Las Vegan, combined her passion for public speaking and helping others when creating The Zen Speaker, a public speaking coaching company. Amy helps clients on their journey to share their stories, find peace behind the podium, and move audiences to action.

Amy has been appointed by various Nevada Governors and Senators to four state and federal commissions. She was the first female appointed to the Athletic Commission, better known as the boxing commission.

In February 2013, she testified before the Nevada State Assembly and Senate Judiciary Committees, using her personally inspiring survivor story in support of Assembly Bill 67, which increased penalties for those convicted of sex trafficking. Her life story is one of resilience, inspiration and accomplishment and has prompted Culture Dog Films to produce a documentary, The Zen Speaker: Breaking the Silence, that is resonating with
anyone interested in turning their personal adversity into personal triumph.

2:00-3:00 pm EST:  On Camera Confidence
Maria Ngo is an award-winning TV host, co-producer, and a media coach alongside her director and co-producer husband. With over a decade of production experience and interviewing thousands of celebrities on the red carpet and at live events, Maria will share some on camera confidence tips for zooms, online presentations or any virtual meeting event.
